Valle Vista Elementary School

APS (Albuquerque Public Schools). Educational - Renovation / Addition Albuquerque, NM 2019

Designed to complement its unique 8.3 acre site in an older, established residential neighborhood, APS’ K-2 building for Valle Vista Elementary School, Valle Vista’s program focuses on redefining the campus to create functional adjacencies and focuses on developing outdoor classrooms, gathering, and play spaces to create rich and nourishing environments for youth and students in the South Valley.

Developed over a series of large group collaborative / interactive design meetings and workshops, several other key focuses were to maintain a visually porous campus by allowing views in and out of campus.

Organized into two wings that create a courtyard around several existing mature trees that help to create a dynamic outdoor space that works with and preserves the existing landscape, slight jogs in building circulation allow the space to be visible and easily accessed by the nearby community.
