Our work evolves out of a collaborative and hands-on interactive process with project stakeholders and our consultant team. We believe that the design process should be a conversation between stakeholders, owners, end users, surrounding communities, and design professionals – which ultimately results in a outcome that captures the voices, energy, and ambition of all those involved.
optimistic, efficient, function based, dynamic design
philosophy
With a primary focus on interdisciplinary, collaborative, and proactive team efforts that include the Owner in the process, SSA works to create architecture and design that responds to the essential principles of each project. Beyond answering the needs of each client and program, our work builds on qualities historically associated with vernacular architecture – a local sensibility, economy of means and material, and an environmentally appropriate response to site and climate.
history
Since 2006, SSA has focused on public / institutional clients. Principal Sam Sterling, AIA, has been licensed within the state of New Mexico since 1995. Sam started SSA in 2006 after 12 years at Antoine Predock Architect where he managed the 50-person office and many large projects nationally and internationally, including museums, federal courthouses, aquariums, and theaters.
