CNM Main Campus Wayfinding

Central New Mexico College (CNM) Wayfinding + Site Improvements Albuquerque, NM 2019

The CNM Main Campus Wayfinding project represents a complex integration of the natural environment with lighting and signage while collecting and safely leading students through a redefined, memorable and functional new campus entry.

Completed in 2015, the approach to this design challenge was to use “place-making” to improve campus wayfinding and circulation issues. Sustainability and educational overlays continue CNM’s focus on student-centered education and the environment, providing opportunities for curriculum extension. The design includes a series of outdoor campus and community destinations, improved street-scape of berms, bio-swales and native gardens to lead visitors safely across the existing parking lots to the campus’ instructional facilities that engage all users while supporting a safe campus experience.

The message for the front door to CNM is one of excitement, hands-on student instruction and sustainability- this is achieved by clearly defining safe pedestrian circulation through parking areas, improving lighting along pedestrian circulation, places for outdoor learning, and new social spaces, creating a clear visual definition to the campus pedestrian experience.
