Los Vecinos Community Center 10-Year Masterplan
Bernaillo County • Institutional - Masterplan • Tijeras, NM • 2014
Los Vecinos Community Center is one of a group of special facilities known as a 'life center'. It serves the second largest service population in Bernalillo County and is focused on the health of its surrounding communities and encouraging activities that promote personal and social well-being.
Our masterplan consists of 9,000SF of new program that is added to the existing 12,600SF Community Center and includes a multi-purpose Indoor ‘Courtyard,’ Community Meeting Room, Multi-purpose Classrooms, Fitness & Weight Rooms, Entry Lobby, Gallery Space to showcase local artists and Skybridge across Highway 333 connecting to Village of Tijeras.
Our design suggests a more open building form which will allow for sustainable systems to feed the building. Solar energy, passive ventilation, efficient building envelope, natural lighting, and water harvesting all contribute to a healthier, more comfortable building that costs less to operate.
Working with Bernalillo County, we have also developed an Open Space program with opportunities for residents to connect with nature, as well as Rx Prescription trails Re-graded Soccer Fields, Splash Park, Community Food Gardens, Youth Playground, Updated Skate Park, Native landscaping throughout, and a Community Plazuela connecting the building to outdoor recreation areas.
