Bernalillo County Sherrif’s Office Relocation Study
Albuquerque, NM • 2022
In August 2022, SSA completed Test Fit Floor Plans and a cost estimate to temporarily relocate the Bernalillo County Sheriffs’ Office into the Union Square Building. The program spaces included an exercise facility for 50 people with a gym, men’s and women’s showers and locker rooms, an academy classroom for 50 people, recruiting area, administration offices for 20 full-time staff and shared workspaces for part-time staff, break rooms, instructor areas, conference rooms, secure storage, polygraph room, videographer office, and a parking lot for 150 spaces. Important security features for this program are necessary, like a backup power generator, access control at all entrances and exits, key access at certain areas, door lock schedules, proper video surveillance layouts, and room coordination with secure armory lockers.
The test fit study looked at the existing conditions and layout of the Union Square building to relocate all necessary program spaces of the Sheriff’s Office and Academy. The goal was to reuse as much of the current space layout to accommodate all functions to reduce the cost of any major modifications. The total cost estimate for a relocation of the Sheriff’s Office into the 28,440sf Union Square building was approximately $1M
